Hamburg marathon – 27 April 2008

The first Handbike City Trophy marathon in Hamburg, Germany, was packed with many highly experienced athletes to include the German ex-World Champion ‘Stefan Bauman’. I got there early so I manage to warm up well before the start at 8:45am.

The race started at a very high speed and after 7 km, we split into smaller groups. Eventually we ended up in a group of 13 athletes where I was racing against 2 of my main competitors ‘Stefan Bauman’ from Germany and ‘Deneve’ from Belgium.

By the end of the race, the speed went above 40 km/hr. Taking into consideration the nature of the terrain I had to speed up the hills with my maximum strength before going into sprint and successfully winning my division.
